From “The Evening Independent” – Washington, Aug. 14 – AP – . . . . . Last Wednesday, the war department’s bureau of public relations told reporters the movies “Wilson” and “Heavenly Days” had been rejected for distribution to troops following a decision that they fell within the political proaganda ban imposed by title V of the soldier vote law. . . . .

The situation regarding “Heavenly Days,” starring the radio team of Fibber McKee and Molly, was less clear.  There was som indication that official machinery had been set in motion regarding this film, but the department said it never had passed the stage of informal discussion. From “The Spokesman-Review” – Donald O’Connor and Peggy Ryan are playing in “Chip off the Old Block,” a musical comedy, opening today at the Post Street.  “The Whistler,” with Richard Dix and Gloria Stuart is the companion feature.

Orpheum—Bing Crosby contributes his best to date in “Going My Way,” say critics.  Barry Fitzgerald and Rise Stevens are in the supporting cast.  “Glidersleeve’s Ghost” with Harold Peary is also showing.

Liberty—Robert Walker, Donna Reed and Robert Benchley are playing in the comedy, “See Here, Private Hargrove.”  “You Can’t Ration Love” is the second feature.

Ritz—“The Purple Heart” with Dana Andrews, Richard Conte, Farley Granger, Kevin O’Shea and Trudy Marshall in a war drama, covering the Japanese action against Yank flyers after the bombing of Tokyo.  “Gildersleeve on Broadway” with Harold Peary and Billie Burke completes the program.
